Selfportrait

Welcome back to your daily source of worldwide art works! Today I shall present you one of my latest works, as it has been a week since the previous post about a portrait was published on my blog. This one is a self-portrait, made using pencils type HB, 4B and 8B. It took me a few days to finish it, considering that I didn't worked at it constantly.

The resolution of the images is rather unsatisfying, not clear enough for you to see all the details of this portait. However, I hope you will enjoy the photos, which will have comments for each step enclosed below.

1) First of all, the eyes are essential in every portrait, that's why I recommend starting the portrait drawing them. I would say that they are even the most important feature on human face. So, you should pay more attention on drawing shadows and light reflexion in this part of the portait.

2) Moving down to the nose, you should know that its complex structure is the reason why you could encounter difficulties while drawing it. A previous sketch would be of real help in this case.

3) Getting further, there come the lips - also complex, but slightly easier to deal with than the facial features we have already discussed about. You may not agree - but I stated my opinion taking into accout the necessary time for each feature to get finished.

4)After the face itself is done, here comes the most challenging part of the portait - drawing the hair of the subject. It IS challenging mainly because of its duration, of its difficulty and also of the large area of paper you must draw on at this step. At times, it may be hard to keep focused on every single hair and the light reflexion. But, after a while, here comes the result...

... and you could finally state a glorious end. Now, i'm eager to hear your opinions regarding my work. Does it leave up to your expectation? Feel free to comment!

  2. Thank you so much! The portrait was actually made by a photo of myself, so I'm glad to see that you appreciate it :)
