My vision about art & architecture

Welcome back, dear readers! Recently, one aspect has come to my mind as far as this blog 'full of dreams' is concerned. Even though it provided you with information on architectural topics and drawing-related tips and photos, I haven't expressed so much about my views and ideas towards these fields. I'm perfectly aware of the fact that opinions differ from one individual to another, yet I strongly believe we always have something to discover from each other by learning to listen to what others have to say...

Only when our existence is the result of our passion and dreams shall we find the right path to raise up and live genuinely.

I've been passionate about philosophy for quite a long time - this is an aspect quite noticeable for all my aqcuaintances, sometimes appreciated, often criticized or misunderstood, but still something that defines me. That's why I chose to write a special article today, meant to be a description of my current feelings towards art and architecture, the two fields of utmost importance for my future and the ones approached on this blog.

Two months ago, I posted an article about my drawing experience, quite briefly in terms of motivation and concepts, focused instead on the technical aspects. Today's article will somehow be the 'part two' of the story begun then... Just because everything starts when something first comes to your mind, then you start imagining and expanding your ideas in countless directions, only to find the proper one at the end of this mental journey which only prepares you for the real experience.

Think. Dream. Live.

You may wonder why I chose this title for the blog. Well, art is a form of visual expression of our inner feelings - just as dreams are the way they come to the surface. Dreams may also mean 'wishes' or even 'ideals'. There are countless aspects to dream about, then to turn them into art. Architecture starts with an idea; everyone, staying in front of a blank piece of paper, dreams of the finished art piece. The dream is only the way from the abstract ideas to real existence. The dreams of an architect should include a very wide range of interests and passions, not only because the complexity of the architecture itself, but also due to the controversial personality of each artist.

If art is a language, talk whenever you put a pencil on paper. These 'visual discussions' will prove to be the ones most worth attending...

I am of the opinion that the origin of any artwork stays in our inner feelings. Architecture is an art, without a shred of doubt, because it promotes beauty, not only utility, and is an artistic way of visual expression, much more than a practical representation of the surrounding space. Dreams, ideals, inner thoughts and personal attitudes, everything can be reflected in one's artistic creation. Just as one may be perceived by others in countless different ways, it is also the case with his or her artwork. This explains the multitude of visions, tendencies and currents in arts, that have made an appearance all over the long history of humanity. Creativity is the essence of human soul and there's no one completely able to judge artistic expressions objectively. Therefore, the approach to art is entirely subjective. The aim of art is to inspire, to give a sense to all the states of mind that cannot make the subject of day-to-day life. An art piece can bring about a myriad of new ideas and different interpretations.

The brightness flooding our inner feelings is the art that will never let your soul blow out... Just the way I stated it more than a year ago, just below the blog title, this is somehow meant to be a motto of this blog. Art may be a never ending source of inspiration, a refuge from all the rutine activities that we have to do on a regular basis. Not everyone is an artist, but we instinctually tend to get surrounded by beauty, and beauty is another synonym of art.

As for an artist, not only are the artworks a form of expression, but it manifests like an irresistible, instinctual wish, which can hardly be kept in. A true painter would never stop painting, if there would be any possibility of working continually until the last touch of brush. A writer would not find another words to express until he or she gets the ideas, the stroke of inspiration, on paper. An architect would see the project of his or her dreams on every piece of land. One should not become an artist because he can, but because he must. It is only for those who would be miserable without it.”. Just as Irving Stone said in his famous novel 'The Agony and the Ecstasy', an artist's destiny is not a matter of choice for everyone - it is something you were born for and a fact that shows up in every aspect of your existence. Irving Stone's marvelous novel, which I've recently read, presents the intriguing life of a genius of the Rennaisance art, Michelangelo Buonarotti. Entirely dedicated to his artwork, especially sculpture, his greatest passion, Michelangelo gave up everything, from social life to wealth, in order to achieve perfection in art. “Talent is cheap; dedication is expensive. It will cost you your life.”    I was deeply impressed by this approach, which matched my own ideas towards artists. I strongly recommend the book not only to artists who look for defining their own personality and aims in life, but for everyone willing to know how to make the right choices in life and how to achieve your dreams by perseverance and dedication.

“Bleed me of art, and there won't be enough liquid left in me to spit! [Michelangelo Buonorotti]”
― Irving Stone, The Agony and the Ecstasy

Evolution, no matter which is our field of interest, is something completely achievable if we have enough patience and dedication. Never give up your talents and dreams - improvement in art won't be late to show up, with every new drawing, with every casual sketch you do - gaining experience and doing everything step by step will make you reach the top, maybe not tomorrow, this month or this year, but in the near future. Stay focused on your ideals, and gain self-confidence - there will be nothing strong enough to stop you from becoming the best. Self-improvement never comes to an end. There will always be higher levels to reach, new challenges to deal with, but what really matters here is the progress itself.

Architecture is the literature of pencil lines, the symphony of perspectives. The everlasting utilitary art. And I chose architecture because here I can apply a broad range of distinct subjects, because I find it to be the most complex, beautiful and rewarding field, because it combines science with all other arts, and, last but not least, because architecture will ever exist, while there are people in search for a place to live in, a place where they could be surrounded by harmony and beauty.

But, still, regardless of the profession you choose, do it as an artist, dedicate your life to it and be the best in everything you have to do. Dream high, work hard, and never forget: you will never reach perfection, but you can be fully accomplished only if you never stop trying to reach it. Nobody will ever be able to define perfection, but, when we know what we head for, maybe we'll find a little bit of rewarding happiness, so long hoped for... somewhere on that way.
