Every existence has a reason. All of us are born with a mission, but an arduous journey awaits for the one who really wishes to grasp the essence. In this journey, countless voices will make you lose your path, doubts will overcome you, new ways that seem wide and opened will take nowhere. There is fall and ascension, illusion and reality, strongly blended and we still don't have our eyes opened enough to distinguish them.
The true meaning of our existence is not to be found anywhere around. An imitation will never reach the perfection of the original model and it is a failure for the spirit. Forms, as we perceive them, are nothing but symbols; we are not meant to reproduce what already exists, but to materialize those aspects which were never expressed before, those which humanity still have to discover.
It is that small voice that encourages a child to first hold a pencil in his hand and put his dreams on paper; that voice which gives you the inner drive to express with genuine honesty, not fearing of anything, because it takes the Truth as its shield; that voice which is so hard to define in words - this is the only candle that we can take with us to bring light into our journey.
It is not an abstract ideal or an illusion - it is a certainty for all the people in history who followed their inner calling and got to master their field, for all those who gained respect for what they brought into this world, because they expressed genuine values, eternal truths. That was their mission. People always strive to imitate them and end up in disapointment, because all they perceive and venerate is a form, a status, instead of the significance which stays behind.
"One should not become an artist because he can, but because he must." - Irving Stone, The Agony and the Ecstasy
A real artistic sense is an inborn calling to materially express what is revealed only to the eyes of the spirit, through inspiration. An artist translates a message that transcends usual senses into perceptible forms. Talent is not only a gift - it is a duty, and the one who was born with it carries enormous responsibility. As it is said in the Parable of the Talents, we are meant to give back more than we initially received. Everyone has chances and potential, the difference stays only in the way in which we use our Talents.
The works of the masters in art are sublime in a sense that has nothing to do with technique, materials, colours and other material aspects. Those artworks are the pure expression of the inner calling, of the spirit itself, so they elevate the inner state of the one who admires them, no matter they are expressed through painting, sculpture, music or literature.
The essence of all beautiful art, all great art, is gratitude. - Friedrich Nietzsche
The ones who bring beauty in this world through their creation realize that living means much more that getting caught into circumstances. Their gratitude for existence has its origin in profound understanding, both of the self and the world. No matter how many hardships life gives us, they are given only to be overcome. They give us the chance to come back to the right path.
A genuine artist can see the beauty beyond shapes, the soul behind the facial expression, the path beyond the hardships, the morning light beyond the darkness of the midnight. Through his art, he tries to portray this ineffable Beauty to everyone. Gratitude is not a subjective feeling, but. instead, it becomes a way of existence.
