"God is in the details." - Ludwig Mies van der Rohe
In many cases, our brightest memories are not large scale images, but flashes of light, miniature objects, things that arouse our interest and emotions. This can also be applied to architecture: sometimes it is the smallest details that truly give a building its unique charm.
One of the Form Study assignments on the first semester, required sketching interesting windows and doors that we could see in our way from home to UAUIM and placing them in a personalized "object book" that we had to design. Anyone passionate about drawing would surely enjoy this work, as it not only let the subjects to our free choice, but was also meant to make us try different sketching techniques.
I can say that, for me, it meant even more than the pleasure of sketching: it made me pay more attention to the details, to the surroundings, to any building next to which I pass. I think this considerably increases the enjoyment of any walk and it is also a precious source of inspiration.
Following, there are the sketches (made using pencils, liners, coloured pencils and watercolors) and the object book made of coloured cardboard. Let's go for a virtual tour of architectural details in downtown Bucharest!
