Calligraphy - the art of everyday life

The importance of every moment is not something to be affected by circumstances. Keeping ourselves receptive to what life gives us is, maybe, the secret of all those people who, with all the hustle and bustle of modern lifestyle, still keep a broad smile on their faces and take time to enjoy the little things that surround them.

Art is not an abstract ideal - it can be brought close to anyone of us, from moment to moment, by the way in which we live, express ourselves and interact with others. Some of us feel inclined to express through visual arts. Something doesn't have to be an exquisite painting in order to leave a mark in your soul. Harmony is found all around us, but truly taking it in becomes a mission.

Handwriting is like a self-portrait that we unconsciously draw everyday. It expresses our attitude and state of spirit maybe more that words themselves could do. An esthetic handwriting is not an inborn talent, but something we can cultivate in time.

Calligraphy as a discipline may seem outdated nowadays, when typing often becomes more common than handwriting. Many could just say that it doesn't matter at all. In my opinion, calligraphy is an art, and, like any other art, it expresses something more than the physical shape of the letters could say. It tells us about the respect we should have even for our smallest and most usual actions, because they are also part of ourselves. It tells us about the care for what we leave behind, even if it is just a piece of paper.

Since there is only one week until the start of a new school year, I thought of posting some of the notebook designs I made one year ago. I wish everyone good luck and inspiration in this new beginning! And, whenever you feel inclined to, let art become part of your everyday life!
